ENCHANTED NIGHT

By Quentin Smith

Many moons are out tonight,

Many ladders lean on the earth;

All can be climbed

With blue moon-struck steps . . .

I climb a long blue ladder of light

Beyond the cooling winds,

Stars whisper above me

In the meadows of the night;

Down the silver rays

Come chimes, touching

Open my head,

Invisible wings

Of thought

Leave me

And are gone upwards

Forever.
