AWESTRUCK

By Quentin Smith

One knows what

The sky is like at night,

And yet one can do nothing,

But wonder .   .   .

And that is what I do

Night upon night

And ever the light of quanta

That hits my eyes from the stars

Blinds me unspeakably,

Now I do not know

Which way to turn, or even

If turning is still possible.

When I go stumbling back up

My doorstep, drunken

On nothing but starlight,

I know only that life is like

A diamond light blazing,

And that it tastes of

Blue star electricity

Flashing in my teeth and eyes.
