AFTER WRITING TWO POEMS OF DESPAIR
By Quentin Smith
In through the garden house window The sun shines the leaves morning-tide green. Look! There is hope outside . . . . . The streets slanted softly in the light, The leaves weaving gently in the wind.
Today a blue sky will emerge Over all the town and over the meadows, And in its center a sun will shimmer Down white on golden-leafed trees And cover all the streets with silver.
